Chapter 1: The Beginning of Stories. Strike Down Lighting Emperor!

Every story in this world starts with the one action. That one action can shape the very world. That one action can bring about the actions of others. Every story has it. And everywhere you look there is an action. Your life is the story but only you can shape it with your one action. Welcome to my story.

Cool opening huh? I worked on it all day. Well anyways I would like to welcome you to the world of the Yen or Earth (as those scientist like to call it). My name is Kwasi Asante and I am just an ordinary 16 year old kid. I play sports; I am an anime, manga, and video game otaku (geek). I'm African American and I wear the most kick ass glasses in existence. Oh and I hunt the most dangerous monsters in the world, that kill you and eat your spirit; we call them Henkeis. Yeah, welcome to my world.

The world is centered on Spirit Energy. Spirit Energy is the endless flow of energy in every living thing. It's made up of the positive and negative emotions. There is an immense amount of Spirit Energy that surrounds the earth and resides in the atmosphere it is called the Spirit Stream. When living things die their Spirit Energy returns to the Spirit Stream and eventually the body does as well. Humans and some living things on the earth can control Spirit Energy and use it for different task. One of those tasks is what I do. Hunting down and killing the Henkei. But it's not just me; there are over a 50,000 people like me who have taken up arms to fight against the Henkeis. We are known as Spirit Hunters. We Spirit Hunters train our spirits to combat against the Henkei; we go on missions all around the world to help people who are danger. That's some of the perks I guess.

And that's where this story begins, on one fateful mission to the city of Carlyle. I was on a mission to exterminate the Henkeis that were roaming around there. But there was one main Henkei who was leading and gathering the other Henkei so we had to find it and take it out. "Who are we?" You ask. "We" would be me and my partner but more on him later.

I was standing on a rooftop and looking at the great city of Carlyle. The city filled with tall buildings but there was still enough space for small local shops. Everyone in that city lived in harmony. I was snapped out of the calm serenity when I heard the screams of the citizens. I jumped from rooftop to rooftop toward the screams. There I saw a Henkei charging at the people. Jumping down from the rooftop and kicked the Henkei and its face landed right into the dirt.

"Go now!" I yelled to the people around me. The Henkei I was standing on started to move, I looked down and applied more pressure hoping to keep it down. I hold my arm out and a burst of electricity channelled through it, the electricity extended past my arm and created an electric wing on my shoulder while sending a pulse of electricity to my palm. I aimed my hand at the Henkei. "Now die, Thunder Wing!" I thrust my hand downwards and pierced right through the Henkei's skull; killing it.

The electricity I summoned out of nowhere is one of my few weapons to fight against the Henkei. I am what is known as a Humanoid (Noid for short). Noids are humans that are born with a special DNA code known as the Sigma Gene. This gene gives humans special abilities. There is only about 2:5 ratio of Noids to Humans on the earth. But even though we are different from humans we are all treated the same way. Thank God for human and humanoid equality act of 2000. In the Noid race there are special Noids that have two abilities. They are called 2nd Gen Humanoids (G2 or 2G Noids). I am a G2. I not only have the ability of Electrokinesis; which allows me to control, manipulate and create electricity. But I also have Super Speed which as the name implies lets me run super-fast. The ratio of 2G Noids are 1:2:5. Luckily we are still just normal Humanoids in the community. Once again thank God for the human and humanoid equality act of 2000.

I look down at the dead Henkei as its body begins to fade away and leaves a small red and black ball in its place. Those balls are known as Spirit Orbs. Spirit Orbs are the remaining spirit of the Henkei. A Henkei is created when someone gives in to their negative emotions and their spirit becomes corrupted and dark. The spirit then starts to absorb large amounts of negative Spirit Energy at once. When their spirit is fully consumed by the negative Spirit Energy their spirit gets a will of its own and rips out of the body because it is not made out of pure negative Spirit Energy. Once it leaves it manifest its self a new body; monstrous forms that look like demons and roams the Yen killing people in order to consume their spirit so they can regain enough positive Spirit Energy to become human again. But it is impossible for them; so use Spirit Hunters have to do it by killing them. Once a Henkei is killed they leave behind their Spirit Orb with their negative energy and their revived positive energy which can be returned to their old bodies. So that is why we really hunt the Henkei; we hope to release them from their endless torment.

I absorbed the orb into my registered Battle Gauntlet that all Spirit Hunters have and continued on my patrol around the city. As I landed on one of the roof tops I spotted a group Henkeis jumping from rooftop to rooftop near the edge of the city. I use my Super Speed to jump from the rooftops to cut off the Henkeis. I look straight at the Henkeis as they roar and hiss at me; most likely warning me to move. Unfortunately for them I have never been the one to move when I was told to.

The 5 Henkeis pounced at me. I dived under them and they all crashed to the floor of the roof. I jumped into the air and used my Electrokinesis to shock the 5 Henkeis at the same time. But the Henkeis shook it off and 3 of them jumped at me while the other 2 fired red energy streams at me. I used my Thunder Shield to form an electromagnetic field around me to repel the blast. I backed away and used my Thunder Technique, 2 lightning bolts struck the 2 Henkeis. I crossed my arms over my chest and using my Thunder Amour Technique; I covered my body in an electrical field that increased my speed and physical strength and stuns the attacker when they attack me directly. The 3 Henkeis attacked me and I was sent towards the ground but they were also stunned in the process. I landed on my feet and used my Snap Kick Combo to send all 3 Henkeis crashing into the 2 other Henkei. They all exploded in an electrical blast. In their after math I grabbed their Spirit Orbs.

"Damn. None of these guys were the target either." I said disappointed as I absorbed the Spirit Orbs. I let out a big sigh as I looked at the beautiful sunset. "Man, the day is almost done. If I don't finish this up soon we won't get paid. Oh man, looks like we'll be begging for food again."

Suddenly a large screeching roar pierced my ears. I turned around only to see that a large Henkei with monstrous wings and a darken face; was charging a large energy stream. I tried to get out of the way but it was too late. The Henkei fired and sent me flying. I tried to regain ground but the Henkei came behind me and grew a dark fist and punched me to the floor. I came crashing to the ground. I looked up as the Henkei came down towards me firing energy blast. I quickly got up and evaded them. Unfortunately the crash landing affected my speed and one of the blast managed to connect. I rolled across the ground like a rag doll. The Henkei came in front of me and reformed a large arm. It pulled back its arm preparing to finish me off. I closed my eyes and braced for the impact pain. I waited for a few seconds but the pain never came. I heard the Henkei's cry again which prompted me to opens my eyes to see what has stopped it from killing me.

Lo and behold it was the man of the hour, the fist of fate, the strength of Atlas, the Earth Titan himself, my partner, the earth to my sky. Matthew Anthony!

Matthew gives a playful smirk as he looks back at me. "So, it seems like you're having trouble."

Allow me to introduce Matthew Anthony. He has been my best friend since I was 4 years old. He is African American, he is pretty muscular for a 16 year old, he has bandages rapping both his arms, and dark-brown eyes. He is also a Spirit Hunter and like me and he is Noid. Matthew has the abilities of Terrakinesis. To be perfectly honest Matt is way stronger than me. And for the longest time we have been partners together. We have battled some of the most powerful Henkei in the world and half of those times I was always saved by Matt. I can trust him and he can trust me. That's why we are known as Team Earth and Sky; because we may be completely different but we always face each other as equals.

I stared as Matt is holding back the Henkei's attack with just his finger. The Henkei was struggling just to move Matt but he was just a rock that wouldn't be moved.

"Ha! Me! Trouble! Ha! Don't make me laugh man. I can take this guy easy. He just snuck up on me is all?" I got up and dust myself off and whipped the blood off my face. "Trust me I can take this guy is easy."

"Yeah right, I can bet you a quarter of this mission's profit that you will be trashed and thrown around like a rag doll and I'll have to come and save you...again." Matt said boastfully.

"All right, I'll take that bet." I agreed.

"Okay then. I'm going to release this guy and he is all yours." Matt explained.

"Bring it." I taunted.

Matt released his figure and jumped out of the way as the Henkei came falling down like dominos. I launched a powerful kick to its face and sent it to the opposite wall. I then used my Thunder Technique by sending lightning bolts at him. Then followed by charging electricity in to my palm and struck him with my Thunder Wing Technique. But of course the Henkei couldn't just sit there and let me beat it to death like I wish it would. The Henkei stood back up and grew two large arms and proceeded to punch me rapidly. I was able to vigorously dodge his attacks. But with my leg still hurting his attacks were getting closer with each attack. I realised that dodging him wouldn't solve anything so I jumped on its arm and charged straight for his head and used my Thunder Armour and punched it in the head. An electrical pulse sent it stumbling back. It retracted its arm and then launched a large energy stream blast at me. I used my Thunder Shield Technique to redirect the blast. I back away as the Henkei was going on a rampage.

"Well aren't you stubborn." I said.

"Do you need help?" Matt called out from the distance.

"No! I'm just fine!" I said. "Just watch and learn Matt this battle is going to end soon enough!"

The Henkei began charging its most powerful energy blast. I threw my hand up to the sky and the clouds began to darken. I looked up as rain was beginning to fall. Thunderclouds were forming and getting stronger.

"Thunder Up!" I yelled. A huge lightning bolt struck me. I absorbed the electricity and my Thunder Armour became more powerful just like my other electrical attacks.

The Henkei launched its attack but it was useless. With my Thunder up Technique I was able to block the blast and turn its spiritual energy to electrical energy for me to absorb. I absorbed all the electricity and then charged my own attack. The Henkei tried to punch me but it was way too late. I used the energy from the Thunder Amour into my attack. I ran at the Henkei as I was charging. I managed to get right in its face. It tried to load up another attack but it was still too slow; I fired my Lightning Saber at maximum power. I launched an electrical blast wave from my hand that completely whipped off his face. I jumped down as the Henkei began to disappear. By the time I landed on the ground the Henkei was gone and a dark red, black, and silver Spirit Orb was left. I absorbed into my gauntlet.

"Target defeated, mission complete." The gauntlet stated.

"Nice work." Matt praised.

"Yeah I know. So I think you owe me a quarter of the profit." I said gleefully.

"....Damn it." Matt cursed. Matt is never good at gambling.

We left the city and headed towards the Spirit Hunters HQ.
*****************************************************************************************

Ah, the Spirit Hunters HQ. It's Spirit Hunters' home away from home. The Spirit Hunter Organization is a worldwide branch. There are branches all over the world. And in each continent there is 1 main branch; that governs the whole continent's hunter bases. Matt and I are stationed in the North American branch; located at Vancouver, British Colombia.
As Matt and I entered the city we headed straight for the headquarters. We stood in front of the long stairs that peered over us like a giant.

"Man, I'm already tired. Why can't the school just reduce the steps or add an escalator." I complained.

"Guess it's to build our physic so we don't become lazy." Matt answered.

"You know how they can help us? They can add an elevator." I said.

"But you just said that they should add an escalator." Matt pointed out.

"Yeah, well. I changed my mind." I said. "I'm too impatience."

"That's an understatement." Matt sighed.

We walked up the long stairs for what seemed like for hours, until we finally got to the top. And you know what climbing those long steps may be a drag (and I really mean a drag) but it is all kind of worth it when you look up and see the Spirit Hunter Headquarters; it was magnificent. The outside of every main branch has a certain design to it to match the location. Our branch is a large tower, about the same height as the CN Tower but only a little smaller and about as wide as the Hilton Hotel. Its front is like a campus. And it had six large, towering pillars surrounding, each one of those pillars represent something, but I forgot what they were. They also act as the machine that launches the shields. Yep our headquarters is pretty awesome. But it wasn't just awesome on the outside. On the inside it looked like the inside of NASA or some other really famous tech company. It was filled with highly advance tech and the cleanest bathrooms you will ever see in your life (and I really mean ever).

The school was filled with many people and Spirit Hunters that are running around and doing their normal routine. The citizens that come here normally request missions for us or report some news about something that involves the Henkei. The Hunters are normally going on those missions or finding missions to go on. Its either that or they are going to class. Yes you heard me; class. With the Spirit Hunter Branch begin a base it is also an academy. Hence why the front looks like a university campus. In the Spirit Hunter academy Spirit Hunters will learn the fundamentals of the Spirit, Soul, and Heart. We learn how to fight, the different enemies we may face, and various crime solving skills. All the branches academies are called the Shujinkō Academy; translated to Hero Academy. Sometimes it's boring, sometimes it's fun, but it is always interesting.

As we entered the building we went directly to the counter. There we were greeted by Merissa. Merissa is the receptionist that takes the Spirit Orbs we gathered and gives us Spirit Stars.

Every time we kill a Henkei and drop off the Spirit Orb we get a Spirit Star. A Spirit Star is spiritual energy in a shape of a small star. Based on the spirit energy of the Spirit Orb; we can gain a Spirit Star with the same energy. We then absorb the Spirit Star and it makes our spirit energy stronger. One Spirit Orb equals on Spirit Star so we tend to try and gather a lot of Spirit Orbs.

After we gathered our Spirit Star we decided to head to class.

"Now we are off to Spirit History class." Matt said gleefully.

"You really like that class don't you?" I asked.

"Well of course I do! We get to learn the very history of how our spirit has been used throughout time. It's like we were there." Matt happily explained. "I'm always surprised
that you're not excited."

"You know my motto man: Live in the now." I explained.

In a split second we heard a loud roaring sound. I tried to turn around but it was far too late for any movement. Before I knew it I was on the ground with somebody putting me into a chock hold. I banged my hand on the floor hoping for Matt's help.

"Ha! Ha! Looks like I win again," Said the attacker.

"GET...OFF...ME...J-JADE!!!!" I yelled with the few breaths of oxygen I could gain.

Say hello everybody to another friend/rival of mine. Meet the Space Crusher, The Cosmic Flyer, And The Cosmo Queen, Jade Gutzmore. Jade is a medium size girl. Stronger than most girls and has black hair. She is a mix between Brown, Asian, American, and Black. She is the most diverse person I know. She is also a humanoid and she is the only person in the world to have the ability of Spacial Manipulation. Spacial Manipulation is the manipulation of space, and space spirit energy. And according to her she has the most spiritual energy out of the Spirit Hunters in our year. Which I find is actually true; but it still doesn't make her stronger or better than me.

"No way, I still got to rub something in your face. And if I let you go you'll just run away." Jade mocked.

"Whatever. If you don't get off then I'll make you." I threatened.

"Oh, I am so scared." Jade remarked sarcastically. "So anyways check this out." Jade grabbed my head and pushed it at her hand. On her hand there was a tattoo of the number IV in Roman Numerals. "See this I'm a Level 4 Hunter now. This makes me your senepai."
In order to keep track of how strong a Spirit Hunter is and how many Henkeis he or she has defeated they put us in creation classes and levels. All Spirit Hunters start at as Level 0 – Clear Spirit Hunter. When we defeat our first Henkei we become a Level 1 – Bronze Spirit Hunter. As a Bronze Hunters we are able to take on J and I class missions. J and I are the easiest missions. When you collect a certain amount of Spirit Orbs and absorb a certain amount of Spirit Stars you can level up to Level 2, then 3, then 4 and so on until you get to Level 10 in which you graduate to a Level 10 – Silver Spirit Hunter. As a Silver Hunter you can take on J, I, H and G missions. H and G are fairly hard missions. Then when you reach level 30 you can become a Level 30 – Gem Hunter. As a Gem Hunter you can be transferred to a certain group. If you are good at physical attacking you will become a Ruby Hunter or the Fighter Group. If your skills are in Tactical Strategies you will become a Sapphire Hunter or the Wizard Group. If you specialize in techniques to defeat your enemies you will become an Emerald Hunter or the Ninja Group. If when you fight and there are many explosions that can destroy villages; you are a Diamond Hunter or the Pirate Group. And if you use torture, poison, paralysis, or inflect status aliments as your style of fighting you are a Pearl Hunter or the Scientist Group. All Gem Hunters take on J-G and F-B missions. F-B missions are the hardest of the hard. It usually takes months to complete just one of those missions. I am a Level 3 Bronze Hunter. Or I was until…

"Oh there you are Kwasi!" Merissa said as she tried to catch her breath. "I forgot to give you this Spirit Star. I seemed to have miscalculated."

Merissa handed me the star. I immediately absorbed the star and the tattoo on my hand changed from an III to a IV.

"What! No Way!" Jade exclaimed.

"Well, well. It looks like I won't be calling you senepai any time soon." I said proudly.

"Well, I'll be off." Merissa said cheerfully as she left back to the front counter.

"Wait!" I pleaded. "You could at least get this troll off me."

"I'm a troll, huh?" Jade said as she grabbed and furiously pulled my leg.

"Ah!! Someone, anyone, help me!" I screamed in pain.

"Okay, okay this is going a little too far." Matt said. He grabbed Jade by the collar and gently lifted her up and places her on the ground.

I gasped for air and started panting out of relief. But my relief was quickly replaced with rage.

"What the hell, Jade!!" I yelled. "You almost broke my leg."

"Like that twig attached to your twig body can even be called a leg." Jade insulted.

"Says the girl with so much make up that when a clown looks at you he says: "Wow, easy on the makeup you look like a stupid freak." I countered.

"Wow that's really good coming from…well…you." Jade countered back.

"Wow that really hurt. I'm dying from your pathetic attempt at sarcasm." I said sarcastically.

"Really want to bring this spark fly?!" Jade taunted.

"It's been brought!" I exclaimed.

We furiously stared at each other, growling at each other, letting our Spirits Resonate and just as we pulled our fist back getting ready to punch each other. There was a sudden cold draft and the ground light up below us. Then from the light, ice spike rose from the ground. Jade and I jump backed as the ice spike rose across the hall.

"You two are seriously annoying me," Said a voice.

"Hey everyone look. She is back," Said one of the male Hunters.

"It's…its…Varnit!!!" A Hunter exclaimed.

Yes it's Varnit Gerwal. She calls herself the Ice Queen; while many of the other guys in the school call her the Frozen Beauty. According to them they call her that because she is so beautiful that it is captured in a crystal ice shelter and can never be broken or ruined. They all basically call her that because she is the most beautiful and therefore the most popular Spirit Hunter at the academy. You may think she likes that kind of attention but the truth is that she hates it; she finds it really annoying when people see her looks and not her skills as a Spirit Hunter. And let me tell you she has lots of skill. She is actually a Level 10 Silver Hunter. She and Jade are partners and together they are Team Ace Queens. She has black hair; she is Indian with a little white mixed in. She is normal sized and not that muscular. She has the ability of Cyrokinesis which allows her to control, manipulate and create ice. Varnit is actually different from other humanoids, she is actually human.

When the mass population boom of the Humanoids occurred there was also the discovery of a special gem known as Materia that same year. Materia is a rock that can absorb spiritual energy. When they absorb enough spirit energy they can break off their outer shell to reveal a gem stone. The cool thing is that when Materia interacts with a Spirit it can fuse with it giving the Spirit and the Body special spiritual abilities. These abilities are the same as Humanoid abilities because they are basically the same thing. Humanoid have abilities because pure spirit energy is encrypted to our DNA and humans can have abilities because they place a gem of pure spiritual energy within them. And just because the humans use Materia doesn't make their abilities any less powerful then a humanoid's. It actually varies on the spirit. And since Varnit's spirit is strong she can easily take me and Jade on any day.

"Oh crap!" I yelped in fear, "Varnit your back, nice to see you again."

"You weren't fighting with Jade were you?" Varnit asked in a scary tone, "Cause you know how I feel about you two fighting."

"Yes maim." I said ashamed.

"Man, are you whipped!" Jade laughed.

"And you!" Varnit yelled. In that moment all of Jade's energy just vanished. "How could you just ditch me like that? Not everyone can teleport you know!"

"I-I-I'm s-s-sorry." Jade apologized in fear as she knelled on the floor.

The anger in Varnit's face was pushed back as she looked at Matt, "Hey Matthew. What's up?"

"Not much." Matt replied. "I heard you two guys went on that Overlord Mission in Olama. How was it?"

"It was pretty easy considering it was an I class mission." Varnit answered confidently.

The two engaged themselves in conversation as Jade and I kneeled on the floor in fear, with our heads down and our bodies trembling. Our minds hoping, praying Varnit would forgive us. Sweat started dripping down from my face. The last time Varnit caught Jade and I fighting she...well...let's just say it is something I never wanted to face again. Varnit suddenly turned around and looked straight at us. The stare was long and it felt like I was being stabbed in the head with a large sword. Finally she just sighed and walked over to us.

"If you two are going to fight at least make it an official match." Varnit said.
In shock I quickly looked up with astonishment and hope in my face. "Wait! So you're not going to punish us?" I asked. (Oh why did I ask?).

"Oh that's right I almost forgot." Varnit said happily. "I'll give it to you guys afterwards." A sudden and painful chill of disbelief, stupidity, and disappointment rushed at me as I slowly dropped my head down.

"Nice going moron! Now I really want to kick your ass." Jade taunted. "Before Varn does."
My spirit came back and lifted my head and turned to Jade. "Is that a challenge?" I asked.

"It is only if you accept it." She answered back.

A large grin appeared on my face as I said, "Let's do this!"
